Spa-like bathrooms are the true luxury in new home design today. Across the country you will see more homes forgoing the traditional tub to include a walk-in Roman shower. However, if you want to make a statement, a free-standing tub can create the drama you desire.
Gone are the days of lots of heavy woods in bathrooms. Today it’s all about light spa colors in cabinetry, tile, and flooring. White cabinetry and subway tile are particularly popular as is plenty of natural light.
Adhering to some basic universal design principles in the bathroom is easy with a no-lip shower with a built-in seat and plenty of shower heads. While you are designing, it’s easy to throw in some attractive grab bars.
Whatever you choose, don’t spare the square footage in the master bath. Create your own oasis.

Built-in tile alcoves near tubs and in showers allow for easy storage of toiletries. Hand-held shower heads are a must in any shower, but for even more luxury, add a rain shower from above. Lighting is particularly important. In higher-end homes chandeliers light the way as with below in the 2015 Ideal Home in Brunswick Forest by Tribute Homes.
