Scotch Hall Preserve: An Inner Banks Gem

Here, in the Albemarle Region, on the part of North Carolina’s coast curving inward, 75 miles southwest of the Outer Banks, is Scotch Hall Preserve.

This community knew what it was doing when it nestled itself in the midst of 3,000 miles of inner coastland, with land that is virtually untainted and unspoiled. Here, you benefit from all the perks of coastal living, but with a bit of a different kind of peace that the Inner Banks provides. You are in an area that has preserved its history, as well as its natural beauty, and it will be hard to turn down the idea of living here.

Roanoke Marshes LighthouseJust 20 minutes northeast of Scotch Hall Preserve is the town of Edenton, North Carolina. Forbes Magazine had the right idea naming this quaint town “Prettiest Small Town in the South,” no doubt for its extensive historical district boasting architecture styles spanning 250 years. In Edenton’s Colonial District you’ll see a variety of homes styled after Federal, Greek Revival, Gothic Revival, and Queen Anne architecture. As North Carolina’s second oldest town—it being established in the late 17th century—you’ll have plenty of history to capture your interest. Historic lighthouses are a must-see, along with the Wright Brother’s National Memorial.

Water sports reign high here, too, with the Albemarle Sound offering itself as a playground for boating, fishing, jet skiing, and other water-worthy activities.

Windsor, North Carolina, is another town nearby, offering more enchanting examples of 18th and 19th century architecture. Delve into more NC history in Windsor with the Hope Plantation, showcasing an insight to the rural life of eastern NC during the 18th and 19th centuries. Here you’ll see the Hope Mansion, a combination of Federal and Georgian architectures, and the centerpiece of the plantation. With other attractions like the Livermon Park & Mini Zoo and the San Souci Ferry, you’ll enjoy exploring the town of Windsor.

Albemarle SoundBut life inside Scotch Hall Preserve is something to love, too. Set away from the hustle and bustle of big city life, this is a community where you can truly relax. The idea behind this community is tradition—reliving traditions that have come to life over the years, and creating new ones with family and friends for the years to come. Scotch Hall wants everyone to feel a part of the community, hosting numerous events over the course of the year. No matter your interests—book clubs, wine tastings, sailing and kayaking clubs—you’ll find something for you.

Top notch amenities make this community even more desirable. The nature trails give you the opportunity to form a closer connection with the beauty of the area, as does hitting the links on the Arnold Palmer Signature Golf course, its 11 holes surrounded by breathtaking views of the Sound. Or perhaps you’d rather grab your tennis racket and take to the tennis courts. There’s also the ability to maintain a healthy lifestyle with their fitness facilities.

And when you want to go home, you can walk through the door to one of the ready-to-live cottages. Or, perhaps your front door opens into a home you customized yourself. Either way, your home is situated within a little slice of heaven.
