Skiing in the North Carolina Mountains

Appalachian Ski Mountain

Just passed Boone, NC, this slope is a lot of fun for a great price. With unbeatable prices on weekdays and seasonal passes, your time at Appalachian Ski Mountain will be well spent.. Also known to be a great time at Appalachian Ski Mountain is their constantly changing and rearranging Appalachian terrain park, which is fun for skiers and snowboarders alike. Appalachian Ski Mountain is also equipped with an ice-skating rink, and a great ski school for those new to these sports.

Ski Beech Mountain

One of the more open and spacious slopes in North Carolina, Beech Mountain has a variety of easy to difficult slopes for all levels and styles. Take off from the top peak and find your own route down, cutting through a plethora of fun rides. Beech Mountain is also accommodated with an outdoor skating rink for those who aren’t so interested in skiing or snowboarding, but would love to take advantage of a fun winter pastime.

Cataloochee Ski Area

Located in the heart of the Maggie Valley, Cataloochee is a long slope filled with fun and rides for the whole family. Start from the top and shoot down their famous main slope titled perfectly, “OMIGOSH”. Cataloochee is famous for trying to provide the best snow they can for the best price. For skiing in the south, Cataloochee is definitely a ski resort worth checking out.

Ski Sapphire

Ski Sapphire is known for being a great beginners ski area. With two slopes and a great tubing area, Sapphire is a great place to come to learn how to ski or snowboard. Though Ski Sapphire isn’t a very big ski slope, the area is nestled right by Fairfield Lake, surrounding you with beautiful scenery as you hit the slopes.

Sugar Mountain Ski Resort

The largest and longest of the NC ski slopes, Sugar Mountain is an awesome time for all ages. There are great ski school classes, and there are also tubing slopes for those who don’t have much slope experience, or just want to slide down a snowy slope on a big inner tube. Sugar Mountain is also home to two black diamonds and one double black for the most experienced skiers and snowboarders.

Wolf Ridge

Last but definitely not least is Wolf Ridge, easily accessible off I-26 in the mountains of Western North Carolina. Ski all over the resort on one of their 22 trails (including 3 black diamonds), or take it from the top and have some fun cutting through their ski tunnel! This is a great skiing destination for any skill level.
