One Insider’s Experience
Freda S. Inda is no stranger to Florida. “I always wanted to live on the Anna Maria Sound because of its natural beauty.” She got her wish this year.
Indeed, the Anna Maria Island area has always been known for its sugar-white coastline, miles of pristine beaches, emerald Gulf waters, and diversity of wildlife. Roseate spoonbills, ospreys, dolphins, and manatees surround this beautiful island.
When Freda heard about Harbour Isle, a new gated community on the Anna Maria Sound, she was intrigued. With its proximity to Anna Maria Island, Bradenton Beach, and Holmes Beach, Harbour Isle seemed like the perfect location for Freda.
Ms. Inda’s Experience
The southern coastal resort-style architecture appealed to Freda, as well as the impressive beauty of the community, which includes a dramatic entrance that leads to a Royal Palm-lined drive.
Freda says, “As a single woman, I really appreciate the safety and security of Harbour Isle’s gated community with its guard tower. Harbour Island offers new construction, attractive floor plans, and energy efficient LEED homes, all at a very reasonable price. Compared to other communities, Harbour Isle offers a great value. You get a lot for your money here.”
Freda decided that Harbour Isle was the place for her, and she bought one of the first condos built there and moved in at the end of August 2012.
“I love living in this peaceful waterfront location on Anna Maria Sound,” Freda says. “The thing I love most about my new condo is that I can watch the sunrise from my front windows and the sunsets from my screened lanai,” Freda says. “And when there’s a full moon, it’s so beautiful to see it shining on the water.”
The Community Welcomed Me with Open Arms
“The people at Harbour Isle are very friendly,” Freda says. “Some of them will stop by my condo after their evening walk and say hello or visit for awhile. We’ve got a diverse group of people living here, which makes it fun to meet my neighbors.”
According to Freda, everyone who lives at Harbour Isle loves the water and all the great water activities such as fishing, jet skiing, scuba diving, and boating. “The residents are an active group who enjoy walking on the two-mile walking path, kayaking, biking, bird watching, swimming, and relaxing by the pool,” Freda says.
I found the Perfect Location
Freda loves the serene waterfront location of Harbour Isle and its proximity to Anna Maria Island and Bradenton. “Just over the bridge to Anna Maria Island there are grocery stores, doctor and dentist offices, hardware stores, banks, libraries, churches, and shops of all kinds,” Freda says. There are also two large hospitals in Bradenton.
“When I leave Harbour Isle, I just turn right onto Manatee Avenue (Highway 64) and immediately drive over the drawbridge that crosses over the Intercoastal Waterway on Anna Maria Sound,” Freda explains.
“I can see the boats coming and going from Sarasota Bay to Tampa Bay,” Freda adds. “If the drawbridge is up, while you’re waiting you can enjoy looking at the sparkling waters, diving pelicans, fishermen, and kayakers. It’s a gorgeous view!”
Shopping, Dining & More
There are a lot of things to do on Anna Maria Island, too. “There are unique shops with eclectic gifts on Pine Avenue,” Freda says. This shopping area leads to the historic Anna Maria City Pier with its fantastic view of the bay.
“The Bridge Street Market in Bradenton Beach is open every Sunday from November to April,” Freda says. “You can buy work from local artists, home décor, jewelry, produce, and plants. There’s also great food and live music.”
Anna Maria Island offers a variety of restaurants serving fresh seafood, as well as gourmet cuisine ranging from French, Italian, German, and Asian. “We’ve got some great museums, too,” comments Freda. “The Anna Maria Island Historical Society Museum is very interesting. There’s also the Florida Maritime Museum in Cortez, which has fascinating exhibits about the history of the Cortez fishing villages.”
“For those who want to explore other parts of Florida, it’s also easy to take trips from Harbour Isle to places like Fort Myers and Key West. “I now live in the Best Island with Old Florida Charm”, Freda says. “Anna Maria Island has the Old Florida feeling and lifestyle. It’s slow-paced here and it’s a great place for seniors.” In fact, the Bradenton-Sarasota area was ranked first in 2009 by Portfolio.com among the “Best Places to Retire in the U.S.”
Freda says, “Harbour Isle has completely lived up to my expectations and I encourage people to come and visit this wonderful place. You’ll see how much everyone loves living here.”
