Becoming Part of a New Riverfront Destination
Brunswick County, NC – Ever since one can remember, residents of Brunswick County opposite the Cape Fear River from Wilmington, NC have had to traverse the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge for daily necessities, shopping and a downtown waterfront destination.
National Chains such as Super Wal-Mart, Applebee’s, Arby’s, Smithfield’s, Two Guys Grill and Harris Teeter are already in place, as well as more banking and healthcare options. In the works is a Lowe’s Home Improvement, a National Hotel Chain and more.
Then there are the local establishments one also used to have to cross the bridge to get to: P.T.’s Grille, Eddie Romanelli’s, and the shopping and dining of the riverfront in historic Downtown Wilmington.
With so much in place, it’s what’s in the works that’s gaining notable attention. Possibly the most anticipated project in Southeastern North Carolina in decades is the new Belville Renaissance project, a “mixed use residential/ retail/ entertainment town center, focused on a marina with public river front boardwalks, open space preservation of adjoining wetlands and a walkable village” (source: Urban Smart Growth dot Net), bringing a waterfront destination that will rival Wilmington’s historic district complete with marina and riverwalk.
Supported by the growth of up to 5,000 new residents over the next few years, The first new residential development in the district, is Hawkeswater at The River. A master-planned community adjacent to the Brunswick River Park, within steps to the area’s new community center and the aforementioned Belville Renaissance project, Hawkeswater will be developed in phases, the first of which is 90 homesites ranging from $80,000 to $140,000. Unlike many developments, a proposed amenity center with Clubhouse and pool will be one of the first buildings constructed.
“We’re extremely excited and lucky to be a part of this development team. Its hard to go wrong being the closest planned community to downtown Wilmington and the closest community by boat. We are very lucky to have this location and to be working with such a strong developer team. The developer team speaks for its self with communities like porters neck country club, tanbridge park, passage point and many more completed communities throughout the south east.” –Richard Edwards, The LMC Group.
Eventually, Hawkeswater at The River will indeed end up “at the river” and include a 42 slip Marina. The opportunity to be a part of a riverfront community within walking distance to the Renaissance Project and boating access to Wilmington, is something those who are able to act on will find hard to refuse.
“Imagine if you could have built a home on 3rd street in Wilmington, 200 years ago. We’re going to be a part of history.” – Richard Edwards
