Rain didn't keep people from enjoying the day

Savannah, GA – The Landings on Skidaway Island, in cooperation with the Coastal Conservation Association of Skidaway, held its annual Kid’s Fishing Derby on Saturday, May 23rd at The Landings Kid’s Fishing Lagoon.

Despite the steady rain, 59 children ages 2 – 15 attended the derby and had the time of their lives! Maybe it was the weather, maybe it was the aggressive removal of predator Bass from the lagoon, maybe it was the hand feeding prior to the Derby, or maybe it was Mother Nature’s way of letting the children have a great time with their parents and grandparents …. but an incredible 493 fish were caught in an hour an a half, close to double the typical amount caught at previous fishing derbys!

One 8 year-old caught a whopping 44 fish, and a four year old girl caught 25.

Awards and prizes were announced and distributed as kids and adults whopped and clapped, and everyone went home happy and just a little (OK a lot) wet!!
