Summerville, S.C., May 11, 2009 – Piccolo Spoleto is bringing two family friendly events to The Ponds this year highlighting folk and bluegrass music. Both events will be held in the beautiful rustic setting of The Ponds Farmhouse Pavilion. Pack your lawn chairs and join us at the Pavilion for an evening of music and fun.

The first event will be held on Sunday, May 24 from 5-7 p.m. featuring Lowcountry folk and bluegrass groups Tammerlin and Sugar Hill. Tammerlin fuses traditional folk with innovative sounds that create a new, varied folk art. Sugar Hill’s performance is inspired by and will honor those who fought in the Civil War, along with a salute to the veterans of World War II and the Vietnam conflict.

Charleston-based YeeHaw Junction will take center stage on Friday, June 5th from 7-9 p.m. This harmonious blend of guitar, bass, banjo, mandolin and fiddle will bring you to your feet. Folk singer/ banjo player Kathie Livingston will emcee both special events.

Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Arts and craft activities will be available for the children. Both events are free and open to the public. The Ponds is located on 17A at Dorchester Road just 5 miles south of Summerville’s town square. For more information contact Therese Munroe at 851-3939 or tmunroe@greenwoodcr.com. About The Ponds

The Ponds is a 1,950-acre master-planned community set between the town of Summerville and the Ashley River Historic District. In addition to a 1,100-acre nature preserve, residents of The Ponds will enjoy the benefits of an onsite Summerville Family YMCA, EMS/Fire Station and village center with retail and shopping. Greenwood has also set aside land for a proposed K – 8 public school.

The Ponds’ residential offering includes custom home sites for Summerville new homes priced from the low $100s and single-family homes priced from the low $300s. Several homes are now complete, and the first residents have moved in. Also complete is the first of four amenity complexes, including a pool, outdoor pavilion, 11-acre multi-purpose field and a restored historic farmhouse. The first phase also includes a waterfront outdoor amphitheatre and several neighborhood parks. A 60-plus-mile sidewalk and trail system connecting to The Ponds’ 1,100-acre nature preserve will be phased in as development progresses. An early part of the system, however, linking the community trail head at the restored farmhouse to hundreds of acres of woods, pastures and ponds, is complete and in service.
