Bluffton, S.C. – Hampton Lake, the first private lake community in the Hilton Head Island/Bluffton area, will host a lecture and book signing by famed area author, Pierre McGowan, Wednesday, November 12 at 11 a.m.

McGowan will give an hour-long lecture, open to the public, in the Lakeview Room at Hampton Lake followed by a book signing of his two books, “The Gullah Mailman” and “Tales of the Barrier Islands,” at the award-winning community’s Tackle Box, a general store and one-stop-shop for fishing supplies, Hampton Lake merchandise, Lowcountry gifts and everyday conveniences. Backwater Bill’s, the community’s casual lakefront restaurant, will be open for lunch (credit card only).

“We’re thrilled to host such a celebrated author from our area,” said Wade Bales, general manager of Hampton Lake. “Mr. McGowan’s books offer a refreshing take on local history, and this is a unique opportunity to meet a local legend.”

McGowan is a native of St. Helena Island and a prominent fixture in the Gullah community. His much admired books recount his life growing up in the Lowcountry, uncovering the social customs and daily life of the Island’s history.
